Maxton

Maxton is a Scottish place name and surname associated with “Maccus's settlement.” Maccus was a personal name, so the place is not literally a “greatest town.” In contemporary naming, Maxton can also be chosen as an extension of Max, but that modern sound-based route should remain distinct from the older Scottish place-name history.

Max is the obvious everyday shortening, giving the name a concise option alongside its fuller two-syllable form. Parents comparing Maxwell, Maximus, and Maxton may find that each offers a different history despite the shared opening. Maxton has a stronger surname-style finish than Maximus and less immediate familiarity than Maxwell. It can suit a family connection to the Scottish place or simply a preference for a longer Max name.
