Meghan

Meghan is a spelling of Megan, the Welsh familiar form of Margaret. The name family ultimately reaches Greek margarites, meaning pearl. The h makes Meghan visually distinct, but it does not change that Margaret-family history or turn the name into a separate Irish word.

Megan developed as an affectionate everyday form and later became a complete given name in its own right. Meghan shares that journey from a longer traditional name to a shorter independent choice. Meghan Markle is a widely recognizable bearer of this spelling. Margaret and the Welsh form Marged offer useful connections for families using Meghan to honor a relative, while Megan provides the closest straightforward spelling comparison.
