Nadine

Nadine is a French-developed form connected with Nadia, itself associated with Russian Nadezhda, meaning “hope.” The name therefore has a route across languages rather than a separate French vocabulary meaning. Its hope interpretation comes through that established name family.

The final ine gives Nadine a different shape and rhythm from Nadia. Nadene is an alternative spelling, while Nadia makes the connection with the earlier form more visible. Nadine has historical use in English-speaking countries, including the early twentieth century, so it is not a newly created variation. A family can choose it for its meaning or an honor connection without treating related names such as Natasha as interchangeable in origin.
