Nori

Nori has more than one naming history. In Japanese it can be a given name or part of a longer name, with meaning determined by the characters used. In English it may be an affectionate form of names such as Eleanor or Honora. Those uses do not share one universal translation.

The Japanese food word nori refers to edible seaweed, but that does not mean a person’s name is necessarily written or interpreted the same way. Nori’s two syllables make it a concise everyday choice. Families can clarify its story by preserving the intended Japanese characters or identifying the longer family name from which their nickname developed.
