Novalee

Novalee is a modern combination of Nova and Lee. Nova connects with the Latin word for “new,” while Lee may come from an English surname associated with a clearing or simply honor a relative. “New meadow” is one possible reading of the combination, not an ancient translation belonging to Novalee as a whole.

Nova makes a natural shorter form, while the lee ending gives Novalee an additional syllable. The full name may appeal to families who want to include a Lee without using a separate middle name. Comparing Nova, Novalee, and a two-name combination can help decide whether that ending should remain part of the everyday name.
