Ollie

Ollie is a familiar short form of Oliver, Olivia, and Olive, and it is also used independently. Through Olive and Olivia it has an obvious connection with the olive tree. Oliver’s deeper origin is less certain, despite its longstanding association with the same tree, so the meaning depends partly on which longer name a family has in mind.

The name has a relaxed two-syllable rhythm and a history of use for both boys and girls. Olly is the closest alternative spelling. Choosing Ollie on its own keeps the affectionate form on every document, while choosing a longer name leaves more options later. Either approach can honor an Oliver, Olive, or Olivia in the family.
