Orion

Orion is the name of a hunter in Greek mythology and of a prominent constellation. The oldest meaning of the personal name is uncertain, so “boundary” is only one proposed explanation. The mythological and astronomical associations are much more securely established.

The constellation’s recognizable belt gives the name a direct connection with the night sky. Different myths tell Orion’s story differently, so no single brief account captures every tradition. Orion should not be treated as a form of the Irish surname O’Ryan simply because the sounds resemble one another. Families can choose it for the sky connection without borrowing an unrelated meaning.
