Orrin

Orrin can be used as an anglicized form of the Irish Odhrán. That name is built from odhar, a color word covering pale or gray-brown shades, with a diminutive ending. The result is often expressed as little pale one. Translating the old color word into one exact modern shade can make the meaning sound more precise than it really is.

Odhrán belongs to an Irish naming tradition in which descriptions of appearance could develop into personal names. Orrin offers a spelling that is easier to approach in English while retaining that older connection. Oran is another useful form to compare. The doubled r helps distinguish Orrin on the page, and its two-syllable shape gives it a compact feel without reducing it to a nickname.
