Osvaldo

Osvaldo is a Spanish form of Oswald, a Germanic name combining a divine element with one associated with power or rule. The usual interpretations “divine power” and “divine ruler” reflect those components. Its ending marks the language form rather than adding a separate meaning to the older name.

Oswald provides a useful comparison for an English-speaking family, while Osvaldo keeps the flowing final o. The two forms can honor the same older name without sounding identical in daily use. Osvaldo is a complete given name, so a nickname is optional rather than built into the choice. An inherited Spanish spelling may be especially important when preserving a relative's name.
