Pax

Pax is the Latin word for peace and also the name of its personification in Roman religion. The word appears in many familiar Latin expressions, including phrases about peace within an empire or between communities. As a given name, its meaning is unusually direct: it carries a complete idea in three letters.

Its ancient religious association is different from its later use as a modern personal name. Families can choose Pax for the ordinary meaning without intending a connection to the Roman goddess. Spanish Paz is a related peace word, while Paxton has a separate surname history despite sharing the same opening sound. Keeping those distinctions clear helps parents compare the names for their actual stories rather than assuming that every name beginning with Pax means exactly the same thing.
