Payton

Payton is an English surname used as a first name for both boys and girls. It belongs to a group of names connected with places, but its earlier elements are not consistently explained. The surname history is firmer than popular claims that the whole name translates neatly as a warrior’s estate.

Payton and Peyton commonly sound alike, making their written forms the main practical difference. If you are comparing popularity, look at both spellings rather than assuming one spelling represents every child with that sound. Payton can also preserve a family surname unchanged, giving it a specific personal connection even when its distant linguistic meaning remains uncertain.
