Pierce

Pierce comes from an English surname derived from Piers, a medieval form of Peter. Through Peter, the name connects with the Greek word for a rock or stone. Its spelling also matches an English verb, but the surname history gives a separate explanation for the personal name. It need not be interpreted as an action or an aggressive image.

Pierce offers a single-syllable alternative to Peter while preserving a historical connection that can be useful for honoring a relative. Piers is the closest comparison, though the final sound can differ in English pronunciation. Actor Pierce Brosnan provides a familiar namesake, while the name itself has a history beyond that association.
