Pierson

Pierson comes from an English surname meaning “son of Piers.” Piers is a medieval form of Peter, whose Greek ancestry is associated with rock or stone. That makes stone a deeper connection in the name family, while the surname's immediate meaning remains the relationship to a person called Piers.

Pierson preserves that older personal name more visibly than some related surname forms. Pearson is a close comparison, and Piers provides a shorter option if the parent name is what matters most. As a given name, Pierson may honor a family surname or a Peter indirectly. Its history is more specific than treating every name ending in son as a new invention.
