Psalm

Psalm is an English word name meaning a sacred song or hymn. The word ultimately comes from Greek vocabulary connected with plucking a stringed instrument and music performed with it. Its strongest religious association is the Book of Psalms, which is part of the Hebrew Bible and is central to both Jewish and Christian traditions.

Psalm West brought the name additional public attention, but the religious word and its significance long predate that celebrity association. In English, the initial p is silent, so the pronunciation is less complicated than the spelling may first suggest. Parents considering Psalm may value the direct connection with worship, poetry, and song. It is a complete word name rather than a traditional nickname for Samuel or another longer name.
