Quade

Quade is used as a first name from a surname with an Irish route through Mac Uaid. That family name means son of Uaid, with Uaid representing Wat, a familiar form of Walter. Walter itself has Germanic roots associated with rule and an army, giving this short surname name a longer chain of linguistic connections.

Australian rugby player Quade Cooper is a recognizable bearer of the exact first-name spelling. The opening Qu- gives Quade a different written character from similar-sounding names such as Cade, while Quaid is a close surname spelling to compare. Its documented Irish surname history offers a firmer explanation than interpreting it simply as the number four. For a family using it as an inherited surname, their own genealogy may add a more specific story.
