Quinten

Quinten is a form in the Quentin and Quintin name family, especially familiar in Dutch. The older Latin source is Quintinus, related to Quintus, meaning fifth. Numerical names were part of Roman naming practice, although the name today does not require a child to occupy a particular position in a family.

The wider name family has a Christian connection through Saint Quentin, the martyr associated with northern France. Dutch painter Quinten Massys provides a notable artistic bearer of this spelling. Quinten’s final en distinguishes it from Quintin while keeping a close relationship in sound and history. It can therefore combine a clear Latin root with a specifically Dutch written form and a substantial European cultural background.
