Quintin

Quintin belongs to the Latin Quintus name family, whose root means fifth. Roman names sometimes used numbers, although a modern child called Quintin does not need to be fifth in birth order. The form developed through the later name Quintinus and its use in European languages.

Saint Quentin, a Christian martyr associated with northern France, helped establish this wider name family. Quintin and Quentin are close spelling choices that preserve much the same English sound. Quinton is another nearby form, though surnames and place names can also contribute to that spelling. Quintin offers an established personal-name route with a particularly clear Latin meaning, rather than a recent invention based only on the distinctive initial Q.
