Raylan

Raylan is a modern name whose best-known fictional bearer is Raylan Givens, created by writer Elmore Leonard and featured in Justified. The familiar opening “Ray” can suggest Raymond, but that resemblance does not prove that Raylan inherits Raymond’s full meaning. Its contemporary formation is clearer than any fixed ancient translation.

Ray is an obvious shortening, while Raylen and Raylon offer similar written alternatives. Families who first encountered the name on television may want to separate their impression of the character from the name they would use at home. Raylan also works independently of that reference, with a two-syllable rhythm and no need for a longer formal version.
