Reggie

Reggie is an affectionate form used with Reginald and Regina. Reginald comes from a Germanic name built around counsel and rule, while Regina is the Latin word for queen. The short form therefore has two distinct name-family explanations, depending on the longer name a family has in mind.

It has also been used as a full first name, preserving the approachable sound of a nickname in formal records. Reggie’s doubled consonant and ie ending place it alongside other familiar English short names, but its specific meaning comes from the intended family connection. An inherited Reggie can stand as its own tribute without needing to expand it into a name the relative never used.
