Reina

Reina is the Spanish word for “queen” and an established given name. The same spelling also occurs in other traditions, including Japanese, where the meaning depends on the characters chosen. The Spanish royal meaning should therefore not be presented as the explanation for every Reina, regardless of language.

Reyna is a closely related spelling in the Spanish name family. Raina and Rayna may sound similar in English, but their histories can take different routes. For parents choosing the Spanish word, Reina makes the meaning especially visible. Families choosing a Japanese name will instead want to preserve the original characters alongside the English-letter form to explain its particular meaning.
