Remington

Remington comes from an English surname associated with a place-name. Accounts of its earliest elements differ, so “place on a riverbank” should not be treated as a universally settled translation. The surname connection is more certain than that particular explanation.

Remington Steele provides a television association, while the Remington name is also familiar through firearms. Families choosing it for a surname connection may attach a different personal story. Rem and Remy provide short forms that contrast with the longer three-syllable name. Remy also exists independently with its own history, so using it as a nickname does not change Remington’s origin.
