Rene

Rene is commonly the unaccented spelling of French René, a name descended from Latin Renatus, meaning “reborn.” Its history includes Christian ideas of spiritual renewal, although a family can also appreciate the broader image of a fresh beginning. In French, René is traditionally masculine, while Renée is the corresponding feminine form; accents are often omitted in English-language records.

Philosopher René Descartes is a familiar historical bearer. For US parents, the spelling may require an occasional explanation because Renee is also well known and sounds similar in English. Ren offers a brief informal option, while Rene itself is already compact. Choosing whether to include the accent is a practical spelling decision worth making consistently across documents.
