Richie

Richie is a familiar form of Richard, from Germanic elements connected with rule and bravery or strength. It carries the longer name’s history in an informal, two-syllable shape. Like several English nickname names, Richie has also been given independently, allowing the affectionate form to be the complete first name.

The spelling makes its connection with Richard especially visible through the shared Rich opening. Richie can therefore honor a Richard in the family while changing how the name feels in everyday use. It is also distinct from the English adjective rich in origin: the name’s older structure concerns rule and strength rather than a direct wish for financial wealth.
