Ricky

Ricky is commonly a short form of Richard, a Germanic name associated with powerful or strong rule. It can also be used through other names containing a similar sound, so the complete meaning depends on the family's intended longer form. The spelling does not automatically carry the meaning of Erica or the English plant name heather.

Rick is a shorter option, while Rickie and Ricki are nearby written forms. Ricky can also stand as the official given name rather than requiring Richard on formal records. Parents honoring someone usually called Ricky may prefer to preserve that exact everyday form. Its familiar two-syllable rhythm is distinct from the fuller names that sometimes lie behind it.
