Rosario

Rosario is connected with the rosary and the Catholic title Our Lady of the Rosary. The name therefore has a devotional history involving prayer and the life of Mary, rather than simply referring to a rose as a flower. Its older word family does connect with roses, but the religious object and practice explain the personal name most directly.

Usage differs across languages: Rosario is commonly feminine in Spanish naming and masculine in Italian naming. Actor Rosario Dawson provides a familiar American example. The same written form can therefore carry different expectations depending on the family’s language tradition. That cultural context matters more than the final o alone, while the shared devotional meaning remains a clear link between the forms.
