Rosella

Rosella is an Italian diminutive of Rosa, giving it the affectionate sense little rose. The flower name has Latin roots and belongs to a large family that includes Rose, Rosina, and Rosetta. Rosella keeps the familiar floral center while adding an ending that makes the full name feel distinct from the shorter Rosa.

There is also a separate nature association in English: rosellas are colorful Australian parrots. That bird word has its own history and does not explain the Italian personal name, but it may add an appealing connection for a family familiar with Australian wildlife. Rose and Rosie offer straightforward short forms, keeping the flower visible even when the full name is shortened.
