Roslyn

Roslyn belongs to the Rosalyn and Rosalind name family. The older Rosalind is traditionally traced to Germanic elements referring to a horse and gentleness or softness. Later associations with roses influenced the way that family of names was understood, so the floral image and the older etymology should be distinguished.

Roslyn compresses the longer name into a more compact written form. Ros or Roz can serve as an everyday shortening, while Rosalind makes the literary connection with Shakespeare’s As You Like It more immediately visible. Choosing Roslyn need not reject that older history: it offers another established form within it, with a different balance of letters and syllables.
