Rowdy

Rowdy is an English word name associated with noisy or disorderly behavior. That direct dictionary meaning is worth separating from the playful or adventurous image a family may attach to it. A child’s name does not determine their temperament, and the word’s meaning should neither be hidden nor treated as a prediction.

Rowdy Yates, Clint Eastwood’s character in Rawhide, gives the name a Western television association. Swimmer Rowdy Gaines is another familiar public bearer of the nickname-style form. Parents considering Rowdy may find it useful to try ordinary introductions as well as the full name, since the recognizable English adjective will remain part of how people hear it.
