Runa

Runa is a feminine form of the Nordic name Rune, connected with an older word for a secret or hidden knowledge. The same word family is associated with runes, the characters used in early Germanic writing systems. This gives the name both a linguistic meaning and a connection with the written history of northern Europe.

Runa is also used in Japan, but a Japanese name's meaning depends on the characters chosen to write it. The Latin spelling alone does not establish a universal moon meaning. For parents choosing the Nordic form, Rune is the closest comparison and secret is the relevant older root. The name's short shape keeps that history understated, while offering more substance than a general association with magic or mystery.
