Saleh

Saleh is an Arabic name connected with goodness, right conduct, and being virtuous. It is a common Latin-alphabet rendering of Ṣāliḥ, also written Salih. In Islamic tradition, Salih is the prophet sent to the people of Thamud, whose story includes the sign of a she-camel. That scriptural figure gives the name a particular religious history alongside its positive everyday meaning.

The vowels in Saleh and Salih reflect different approaches to transliteration and regional pronunciation. Neither spelling changes the underlying Arabic name, although individual families may strongly prefer the form used in their community. Saleh can therefore work as a heritage name, a devotional choice, or a name chosen for its association with integrity. Its meaning is rooted in Arabic moral vocabulary and can be stated simply as “righteous” or “virtuous.”
