Salman

Salman is an Arabic name connected with safety and soundness. It belongs to the same broad root family as words associated with peace and well-being. A major historical bearer is Salman al-Farisi, or Salman the Persian, remembered in Islamic tradition as a companion of Muhammad. His name gives Salman a longstanding place in Muslim cultural history.

The name has traveled widely beyond Arabic-speaking communities, including South Asia. Novelist Salman Rushdie is one recognizable literary bearer, while the double-a spelling Salmaan makes the long vowel visible in a different way. These cultural associations show the breadth of the name’s use without changing its Arabic foundation. For parents choosing it, the ideas of safety and wholeness may matter alongside the religious or family history attached to the name.
