Samir

Samir is an Arabic name associated with someone who shares conversation in the evening. Its meaning refers to companionship and the social setting of an evening conversation, rather than simply translating as the general word friend. That specific association gives the name a story beyond its familiar sound.

Sameer is another common Latin-letter spelling, with the double e making the long vowel especially visible to English readers. Sam can provide a short form, although Samir is already only two syllables. Names from other languages that sound similar may have different roots, so the Arabic meaning should not automatically be transferred to every matching spelling.
