Sammy

Sammy is a familiar form of Samuel and Samantha and has also been used independently. Samuel is a biblical Hebrew name with several traditional explanations, including God has heard and name of God. Samantha’s origin is less certain, so the meaning of Samuel should not automatically be treated as the literal meaning of every Sammy.

The ending gives Sam a warmer, more informal sound while keeping it easy to recognize. Sammie and Sammi are nearby spellings, and a family may prefer one because it matches an older relative’s name. Sammy’s flexibility lies in its long use as an affectionate form: it can preserve a full-name connection or be the complete name a child grows up with.
