Savior

Savior is an English word for someone who saves or rescues another. It has a particularly strong Christian use as a title for Jesus, while the ordinary word can also describe a rescuer in a nonreligious setting. Its linguistic history goes through French and Latin words concerned with saving.

Saviour is the usual British spelling, and the difference in spelling does not create a different meaning. As a personal name, Savior belongs to the direct use of meaningful English words rather than to a longer name that has been shortened. Families may choose it for a faith connection or an idea of rescue and care. That intended association is more informative than treating the name as a prediction of a child’s future role.
