Shalom

Shalom is a Hebrew word for peace that also carries a broader sense of wholeness and well-being. It is familiar as a greeting and a farewell, making it both a personal name and an everyday expression of goodwill. In Jewish religious and cultural life, its importance reaches beyond the simple absence of conflict.

The name has been used for boys and girls. Model Shalom Harlow is a recognizable female bearer, while its use as a masculine Hebrew name has a separate, established history. Shalom shares a linguistic family with names such as Shlomo, the Hebrew form of Solomon. Families drawn to a clear meaning may appreciate how directly the name expresses a wish for peace.
