Shoshana

Shoshana is a Hebrew flower name traditionally translated as lily, although the word has also been used for roses in modern Hebrew. It belongs to the same historical name family as Susanna and Susan, which developed through other languages. The flower meaning gives these otherwise different-looking forms a shared background.

Shoshana preserves a recognizably Hebrew shape and is familiar in Jewish naming traditions. Shosh is a short form sometimes used in everyday life, while Shoshanna and Shoshannah reflect alternative Latin-letter spellings. Actor Shoshannah Stern is a bearer of one of those related forms. A family choosing Shoshana can connect with the older Hebrew name directly, rather than with one of its European descendants.
