Skyla

Skyla is a modern name often associated with Skylar or Skyler. Those names connect with the Dutch surname Schuyler, traditionally interpreted as “scholar.” Skyla may also be chosen directly for its resemblance to the English word sky, so the surname explanation is one possible naming route rather than the meaning of every use.

Sky offers a short form that makes the nature association especially clear. Skyla’s final a gives it a different two-syllable shape from Skylar, particularly in accents that pronounce the final r strongly. Parents can compare the forms by sound and family intention without assuming an altered ending creates a separate old Dutch word.
