Stellan

Stellan is a Swedish masculine name with an uncertain origin. Several explanations have been proposed, including a connection with calmness, but none should be treated as a settled literal meaning. Its resemblance to Stella does not make it a straightforward masculine version of the Latin word for “star.” Actor Stellan Skarsgård has helped introduce the name to audiences outside Scandinavia.

The two syllables and firm opening give Stellan a distinct sound beside Scandinavian choices such as Soren or Anders. It is substantial enough to use in full and does not depend on a nickname. English-speaking readers may recognize its structure even if they have not encountered it before. For parents, the Swedish usage is a stronger foundation than an attractive but uncertain translation.
