Sunny

Sunny is an English word name associated with sunshine and, figuratively, a cheerful outlook. The literal weather meaning is different from a prediction about a child’s personality. It can stand as a complete name or serve as an affectionate nickname within a family.

Sonny sounds the same in many English accents but comes from an endearment related to “son,” so the two should not share one etymology. Sunnie is a spelling alternative. Families choosing Sunny for a nature connection may prefer the ordinary word spelling, while others may use it informally for a longer name.
