Taj

Taj means crown and is used as a name in Arabic and Urdu naming traditions. Its meaning supplies a clear royal image in a remarkably short form. The word is also familiar to many English speakers through the Taj Mahal, giving the name a recognizable cultural association beyond families who use the word in everyday language.

The crown image can be understood as honor or something treasured, although those are symbolic readings rather than additional literal meanings. Taj has been given to boys and girls and works as a complete name despite its brevity. Tahj is another recorded spelling, while Taj keeps the most direct relationship with the familiar Roman-letter form of the word.
