Teodoro

Teodoro is the form of Theodore used in Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. The older Greek name Theodoros combines theos, God, with doron, gift. Its meaning is therefore expressed directly by the two parts of the name, which have remained recognizable as the form moved between languages.

The final o gives Teodoro a different rhythm from English Theodore while keeping the same inherited background. Saints and other historical bearers helped this name family become established across Christian Europe. For a family honoring a Theodore, Teodoro can preserve that link while reflecting another language spoken at home. The Greek origin and the later language form can both be part of the name’s family story.
