Tomas

Tomas is a form of Thomas used in several European languages. The name ultimately comes from an Aramaic word meaning “twin,” a meaning inherited across its different spellings. The absence of h does not make Tomas a newly invented name; it is established in its own right in multiple naming traditions.

Pronunciation depends on language, especially the stressed syllable and vowel sounds. Accented forms such as Tomás and Tomáš make those differences more visible on the page. Tom is a familiar shorter option in English. Families using Tomas across languages may want to introduce their preferred pronunciation rather than assume every reader will interpret it alike.
