Troy

Troy can refer to the ancient city known from the Trojan War stories, or come through a surname associated with the French city Troyes. Those geographical routes should be distinguished instead of combined into one neat ancient translation. A family may also choose the name simply for its concise sound.

The ancient-city association brings Greek literature into its modern story, while a surname connection may point to a specific family history. Troye is an alternative written form. With one syllable, Troy is already complete without a nickname. Parents choosing it for a place or literary interest can explain that intended reference more clearly than a universal meaning field can.
