Tru

Tru is a shortened spelling of the English word “true” and can also be a nickname for names such as Truman. The word route gives it an association with honesty or faithfulness, while a nickname may carry a more specific family story. Those uses can overlap without establishing one origin for every person named Tru.

Its three-letter form keeps the name visually compact. True preserves the ordinary word spelling, and Truman offers a longer formal option if that is the connection a family wants. Tru is used for boys and girls. The brevity may work especially well beside a longer surname, although the omitted final “e” may need explaining when spoken aloud.
