Truitt

Truitt is an English surname connected with Trewhitt, a place name in Northumberland. The deeper origin of that place name is uncertain, so elaborate translations involving a river bend or a particular kind of wood should be treated cautiously. The geographic surname history is firmer than a modern interpretation based on the English word true.

Truett is a closely related spelling, and both have been used as first names through the familiar practice of adopting family names. Truitt’s two syllables keep it distinct from the one-syllable word True while allowing a family to enjoy that positive sound association. If it honors a surname, the ancestral connection can provide a specific story even where the oldest place-name elements remain unresolved.
