Tyrell

Tyrell comes through an English surname of Norman origin, with Tyrrell and Terrell among related forms. The surname is often connected with an old French word involving pulling, though its precise early development is not completely settled. That history gives Tyrell a surname background that reaches beyond its contemporary use as a first name.

The spelling is also familiar through the fictional House Tyrell in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, adding a modern literary association to the older family name. Tyrell and Tyrrell differ by a single repeated consonant, so a family surname connection may guide the choice between them. The inherited surname identity is more dependable than treating “stubborn” as a guaranteed literal meaning.
