Vance

Vance is a surname used as a given name, often connected with an English surname history referring to someone near marshland. That landscape explanation should be treated as a surname route rather than a description of every family's ancestry. Its presence in Ireland does not automatically give the underlying word an independent Irish meaning.

The name is brief, with one syllable and a clear final consonant sound. Musicians Foy Vance and Vance Joy supply recognizable associations, although the latter uses a stage name. Families may choose Vance as an inherited surname or for its concise sound. Its history is more useful than guessing how a particular public figure might affect future naming preferences.
