Vernon

Vernon comes through a surname associated with a place of alder trees. Its history belongs to the movement of place names into family names and then into given names. The tree connection gives it a nature meaning that is less immediately visible in English than a direct word name such as Willow or Alder.

Vern provides a short everyday form, while Vernon keeps two syllables and the full surname shape. It has a longstanding presence as a given name rather than being a recent invention. Families choosing it to honor an older relative can retain the exact name while also sharing the quieter botanical story behind it.
