Vincenzo

Vincenzo is the Italian form of Vincent, from the Latin Vincentius and a root meaning “to conquer.” The name's religious history includes saints in the Vincent family, but its meaning is linguistic rather than a promise of victory. It preserves a distinctly Italian form within a name family found across many languages.

Composer Vincenzo Bellini and cyclist Vincenzo Nibali are notable bearers from very different fields. Enzo is an established short form, although Enzo can also come from other names and need not always expand to Vincenzo. The full name supplies more context than the nickname alone. Vincent offers a direct comparison for families honoring a relative while using an Italian form.
