Wes

Wes is a short form associated with Wesley and Weston, both English names containing an element referring to the west. Wesley is usually linked with a western clearing or meadow, while Weston refers to a western settlement. Wes preserves the shared opening without committing to one particular longer name.

Filmmakers Wes Anderson and Wes Craven and jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery give the short form distinct cultural associations. It can also stand as the official given name. Choosing Wes directly keeps its one-syllable shape in every setting, while Wesley or Weston offers a longer version if a family wants to retain a surname or relative’s complete name.
